Preview (beginning of the article)
With many lead changes, chases to catch up and some prominent retirements, this year's event was one of the most exciting in recent years. Anton Werner secured the first Audi victory since 1986. In unusually clear and sunny weather for the Eifel on Friday and Saturday, 93 competition teams and 30 advance cars took on the 145 kilometers of the Cologne Ahrweiler Rally from the start and finish in Mayschoss in the Ahr valley. Traditionally, there are two classifications: the vehicle model years 1966-1981 (Youngtimer, Historic) compete for the overall victory and the model years 1982-2006 for the "Gold Cup". The good weather led to close duels and an exciting race in both categories.
