The German Touring Car Championship (DTM) is one of the most famous racing series in the world and is celebrating a milestone birthday this year. A new era in motorsport begins on the Zolder circuit in Belgium, 70 kilometers northwest of Aachen, on 11 March 1984. 24 touring cars of various sizes lined up at the start of the traditional Bergischer Löwen. It was the first race of the newly created German Production Car Championship, from which the DTM would emerge two years later. "We were all very excited when we drove to Zolder. A large starting field with illustrious names, and I was there too," recalls Volker Strycek, who immediately finished third in a BMW 635 CSi and laid the foundations for a highly successful season.
