Photo Gallery «Live broadcast from the cockpit 50 years ago - Rainer Günzler in the Porsche 904»
Rainer Günzler was the star reporter at ZDF when it came to racing. Not only did he intervene in the action on site himself, he also had good ideas. In 1966, he came up with the idea of taking a camera car to the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring and broadcasting it live. With an extra 70 kg, he and Paul Frère started from 26th position and would probably even have finished in the top 15 had they not finished the race at the end of the live broadcast. Rainer Braun remembers the colossal effort and the problems that arose during this early live report. And he also knows how much easier the same undertaking was in 1987 at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring.
