Summary
Between 1963 and 1967, the collaboration between Alfa Romeo, Auto Delta and Zagato produced a good 120 examples of the Giulia TZ in two series (TZ1, TZ2). They were almost uncompromising racing cars and were responsible for many class and overall victories. They were characterized by their low weight and exceptionally streamlined bodywork. This report traces the history of the Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ, portrays an original vehicle in detail and shows many archive photos.

Work on the Giulia Tulbolare Zagato began as early as 1959, when the Alfa Romeo Giulia had not even been fully developed. But Zagato worked closely with Alfa Romeo and therefore had access to the development data. For Alfa Romeo, on the other hand, Elio and Ugo Zagato were ideal partners, as their designs proved to be very successful in motor racing. They faithfully followed the motto that a sports car had to be reliable, lightweight and have low drag. The Giulia TZ from 1963 was the perfect realization of this maxim. The car was shown for the first time in prototype form at the Turin Motor Show in the late fall of 1962. The Automobil Revue wrote in its motor show report:
