It is said that all Bugatti engines of the "Le Patron" were equipped with eight cylinders, which is certainly not true. Nor is it true that Bugatti is said to have told a critic of his brakes: "My cars are for driving and not for braking." The brakes were not bad. The cars had brakes that would stand up to today's standards. Another story claims that Bugatti inserted handwritten letters into the hollow front axle of customer cars. Yet the vast majority of Bugattis were equipped with solid axle bodies.
