The Zoute Grand Prix took place for the eighth time in Knokke-Heist from October 5 to 8, 2017. Alongside the Bonhams auction, the main attraction was once again the Concours d'Elégance. The Zoute event now attracts over 200,000 visitors who are interested in the Concours as well as the rally and the auction.
The Concours d'Elégance once again has a strong line-up this year with the original 1964 Aston Martin DB5 from the James Bond classic "Goldfinger", a historic Alfa Romeo racing car - Giulia TZ2 (1967) and the Bugatti Chiron, one of the most powerful, fastest and most luxurious sports cars of all time. Over 100 cars took part in the Concours.
A unique mix of young and old
A novelty in 2017 was the unique mix of young and old. In addition to the classics, the Concours also had a number of special categories to offer. Two classics turning 60 - the BMW 507 and the Mercedes 300 SL - were in the spotlight, and Ferrari, as is well known, celebrated its 70th anniversary. But there were also many modern "gems" to admire. For example, the inimitable black Bugatti Chiron, one of the most exclusive muscle cars ever made.
The international jury of experts took over the judging. It was made up of a number of illustrious names such as Louis de Fabribeckers, head of the design department at Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, Adolfo Orsi, historian and chairman of Historica Selecta, and Quirina Louwman, a Dutch collector and racer of historic cars.
Best of Show - Classic with 007 class
For many, "Goldfinger" is the best Bond film of all time. Not least thanks to the gentleman secret agent Sean Connery and his streamlined super GT, the 1964 Aston Martin DB5, a dream come true for many sports car fans. The elegant classic not only won the Lebeau-Courally Trophy - Best of Show, but also Category 5 - Aston Martin: The David Brown Era.
