On Wednesday, May 6, the 90/55/45 exhibition was opened in the evening by Jo Siffert's daughter Véronique (now de Sybourg) with the cutting of a red ribbon. The children of the two great Swiss racing drivers Herbert Müller and Jo Siffert know each other well - so well that Véronique and Philippe Siffert as well as Daniel Müller are continuing the close friendship of their fathers "Seppi" and "Stumpen Herbie" in direct succession.
Three anniversaries - one exhibition
In the end, however, it took the foresight of the Jo Siffert Association, headed by Norbert Wicht, for him and his tireless team to combine the numbers 90/55/45 (90th birthday and 55th anniversary of Seppi's death and 45th anniversary of the death of "Stumpen-Herbie") with the cross-generational friendship and create this wonderful exhibition. Three children who care for the motorsport of two legends, share memories, anecdotes and a common view into the wonderful past.
Daniel Müller remembers: "Jo Siffert and my father Herbie were very close friends and always up for a joke. Jo's friendly attitude towards every single person, including me as a young boy back then, has impressed and influenced me greatly to this day."
The "Association Jo Siffert" has been active since Seppi's memorial service in 2021 and consists of Norbert Wicht - the president -, Wolfgang Hugentobler, Jean-Marie Wyder, René Berset, Jean-Marc Kohler, Yves Ludovic Egger, Philippe Siffert and Véronique de Sybourg-Siffert.
A friendship that lives on
The common thread of this year is the great friendship between Siffert and Müller across several motorsport disciplines. These two drivers carried Switzerland very high from the early 1960s until their tragic deaths in racing (24.10.1971 Siffert and 24.5.1981 Müller). To ensure that the memory lives on in the younger generations, the entire team has activated the necessary network of collectors of the cars and memorabilia that have become legendary. Various photos, films, press clippings, miniatures, trophies and cups that bear witness to the careers of our two favorite drivers adorn the walls and display cases. Throughout the duration of the exhibition until October 31, 2026, vehicles will be rotated to ensure the most realistic panorama possible.
Insider tip
For six months, the Dula family's Murtenbox hall, after serving as a showcase for a collection dedicated to the Citroen brand, is hosting this commemorative exhibition, which is open on Fridays and Saturdays and on request for groups in between.
As the small town of Murten is worth a visit anyway, the commemorative exhibition can be perfectly integrated, or vice versa of course. For the older visitors, many memories are opened up and all the younger ones get to know our heroes from back then. Even Büne Huber, frontman of the band "Patent Ochsner", came out as a big Siffert fan and mingled enthusiastically with the large audience.
Halle Murtenbox, Au Tombex 40, 3280 Murten, unfortunately not easy to find. Take Burgunderstrasse in a westerly direction, then turn left into "Chemin Fin du Mossard". A small exhibition sticker at the traffic circles will help you find the way.
