More than 200 vehicles from 16 countries were on display at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in Monterey, California, on August 18, 2024. The 73rd edition of the beauty contest on the golf course on the Pacific coast produced an unprecedented winner.

Although unrestored cars have been on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance for decades, it was only in 2024 that the overall victory went to one for the first time in history: the Bugatti Type 59 Sports from 1934.

Not only was this the first time that a car from one of the "Preservation Cars" classes was voted "Best of Show", but this victory is also the first win by a European at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The Bugatti Type 59 Sports, which has been preserved as King Leopold III of Belgium once had it painted and which has several Grand Prix victories to its name, was shown by Swiss Fritz Burkard from the Pearl Collection in Zug and won in the "Prewar Preservation" class. With this victory, the Bugatti brand has once again caught up with Mercedes-Benz in the number of "Best of Show" titles. Both now have ten victories each.

Richard Gauntlett, who lives in Switzerland, represented the Aston Martin Bulldog at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, which triumphed in the "Wedge-Shaped Concept Cars & Prototypes late" class. In the 1970s, the Bulldog was to be developed by Aston Martin as the fastest car of its time, but fell short of its target of 200 miles per hour, which is why the project was shelved. Philip Sarofim, American businessman and car collector, acquired the Bulldog in 2019 and engaged Richard Gauntlett and Classic Motor Cars (CMC) for its restoration, which was completed in 2021. Subsequently, the Bulldog finally surpassed its original target of 205.4 miles per hour.

The Lancia Stratos Zero, which is also owned by Philip Sarofim, was also considered a candidate for the "Best of Show" title, but "only" won the "Wedge-Shaped Concept Cars & Prototypes early" title in 2024.
