When Porsche presented the completely renewed Porsche 911, internally known as the 996, at the IAA in 1997, it came as a shock to many tradition-conscious Porsche drivers. The design and technology represented a clear departure from the past. But the new sports car proved its worth and became the best-selling 911. One of the first models went to tennis player Martina Hingis, who won the car at the WTA Touring in Stuttgart/Filderstadt. This vehicle report describes the early 996 and shows it and its evolutionary forms in many pictures.
