Does this fall under the heading of nostalgia or is it simply like meeting a long-lost old friend again? The Mini Cooper, the dachshund car from England that gave the big boys a run for their money in sport, freed England's carmakers from their reputation for technical conservatism and became a classless small car, is back after a break of two years. As lively as ever and clearly more mature, it provides the proof: it is still the biggest of the small cars, but at DM 7945 for the Cooper 1300 it is also good value. As a kind of by-product, the Italian BL subsidiary Innocenti also revived the former Cooper 1000 in addition to the Cooper 1300. It bears the name Mini 1001, which is less a reference to the number of nights during which the Via Pitteri in Milan racked their brains over this model than to the derivation from the standard Mini 1000, which was delivered from England.
