Following Peugeot's success with the 205 Turbo 16, which continued its career in endurance rallies after the end of Group B, and its derivative, the cleverly designed "Shilouette" Peugeot 405 - in other words, the 205 Turbo 16 re-carved to look like the 405 - PSA launched the Citroën ZX instead of another Peugeot in the early 1990s - or rather, a car bearing its name. Because the rally car and the production car have very little in common. However, at least some of the aura of the adventurer was to be transferred to the rather staid Golf competitor - according to the calculations of those responsible at the time.
