Only rarely has a car played a major role in a movie that is not actually about cars. In the 1970 film "Le Choses de la Vie" ("The Things of Life") by director Claude Sautet, however, a silver-colored Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint from the 1950s almost dominates the story, were it not for Michel Piccoli and Romy Schneider. The film centers on a serious accident in which architect Pierre Bérard loses control of his Alfa Romeo coupé, overturns, is seriously injured and then sees his life flash before his eyes in the waking moments that follow. The filmmakers procured ten Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Coupé cars for the accident and film scenes, but only five of them are said to have been destroyed for the elaborately produced accident scene.
