Summary
For many years, Germany's best-selling six-cylinder car did not come from Stuttgart. The Opel Kapitän P 2.6 presented in 1959 was the Rüsselsheim-based company's big success. No Kapitän before or after it sold more; none embodied the dream of prosperity during the economic miracle more. This article tells the story of the Opel flagship with the panoramic windows and shows it in many photos as well as in the sales literature of the time. A sound sample of the six-cylinder engine is also included.
This article contains the following chapters
- Forced to improve
- Skillful cosmetics
- Six-cylinder at a competitive price
- Record-breaking engine in the Kapitän
- Power and splendor
- Change of command

And yet, more than 60 years later, it still manages to convey to a one-day driver what all those who enjoyed success in the land of the economic miracle felt.
