Four speed epicyclic pattern with preselective control mounted on the steering column, the gear can be selected without the driver removing his hand from the steering wheel. The simplest form of gear change known and one with which it is impossible to make a noise. It also has the advantage of permitting any gear to be selected before engagement, so that rapid change can be made without fear of "missing" or damaging the transmission. It is completely reliable and has been adopted on the world's fastest racing cars, which is a demonstration of its ability to stand the rough est usage. It is also the most costly form of gearbox to manufacture, and is therefore exclusive to quality cars. A further advantage is that all intermediate gears are silent in operation. It is a gearbox that makes the novice an expert and'enables even the expert to obtain a better performance. In combination with the automatic clutch, it is exclusive to Riley cars, and is known as the Riley Preselectagear. BRAKES. Four wheel brakes. Balanced mechanical operation and rapid positive adjustment. The hand brake operates independently on rear wheels only.
