"3K-type" engine used in the Corolla 1200 series features an aluminium alloy cylinder head and larger valves operated by a highpositioned camshaft. It produces 73HP (SAE) at 6000rpm and 10.3m/kg. (74.5ft/lb.) maximum torque (SAE) at 3800rpm, The "3K-B type" engine installed in the 1200 Coupe SL is basically the same engine as the "3K-type" but fitted with twin, twobarrel carburetters it delivers 83 HP (SAE) at 6600rpm and 10.4m/kg. (75.2ft/lb.) maximum torque (SAE) at 4600rpm. The Corolla 1400 Deluxe Coupe is powered by a"T-type" engine of advanced design featuring a crossflow layout, aluminium hemihead and valves arranged in a 'V'. Double rocker shafts to operate the valves means no valve flutter even at high speeds; centre sparking plugs ensure most efficient explosion in cylinder head; crossflow hemihead gives better breathing.
