Preview (beginning of the article)
While the racing teams from Ferrari, Cadillac, Toyota, Peugeot and Porsche, among others, were preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, RM/Sotheby's auctioned 22 Le Mans-related cars on Friday, June 9, 2023 in the afternoon. Racing cars with history do not come cheap, as documented by an average estimate of EUR 1.875 million. However, the public did not want to follow the price recommendations in all cases, and six of the 22 cars could not be sold. Ferrari won Le Mans in 2023 for the first time since 1973, taking overall victory. RM had four Ferrari cars on offer. The Ferrari 121 LM with chassis 0546 LM competed in the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Mille Miglia. Drivers included Maurice Trintignant, Harry Schell and Piero Taruffi.
