Summary
There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. One of these vanished brands is Matra, which specialized in long-range missiles and spacecraft. The models of the subsidiary Matra-Sports were quite exotic, the best-known model being the Bagheera.

Preview (beginning of the article)
From 1954 to 1962, there was the DB brand (for Deutsch & Bonnet), whose small DB Panhard even excelled in Le Mans racing. From 1961, Charles Deutsch built the Panhard CD coupé, while René Bonnet used Renault rear engines for front-wheel drive sports cars of his own brand from 1962. In 1962, he launched the first mid-engined road sports car, the Djet. At the end of 1964, René Bonnet sold his company in Champigny-sur-Marne to Matra, a company specializing in long-range missiles and spacecraft. Its new subsidiary Matra-Sports built the elegant, amazingly agile coupé with longitudinal beams and tubular frame structure until 1968 (Djet with 1108 cm3, 72-94 hp; Jet with 1255 cm3, 105 hp).
