August 1979 was also full of headlines for Germany and the BMW M1 Procar series. Two weeks after the Procar Gala in Hockenheim, the Procar race at the Österreich-Ring caused a lot of tension and the odd moment of sporting politics. Just 14 days later, the first German driver took victory in the Dutch Grand Prix, as Rainer Braun recalls.
