The last of four Dolder Classics took place on September 11, 2016 in warm (to hot) late summer weather on the Dolder ice rink above Zurich.
Close to the people
Entry is free for visitors, while exhibiting classic car drivers pay five francs and even receive a voucher for a glass of champagne. They are treated to the best food and drink, as there are also tasty sausages and fine meats on offer. That is, if you can find the time at all given all the beautiful cars.
Broad spectrum
One of the strengths of the Dolder Classics is the wide range of vehicles on offer. Whether Austin Seven, BMW 700 or Bentley 4.5 liter, all eras and all types of vehicles are represented.
And there are also exotic cars that you don't see every day, such as a three-wheeled Berkeley sports car or a Lister-Jaguar "Knobbly". But it is often the former bread-and-butter cars such as the VW Beetle or the Fiat 500 that trigger the most emotions in the viewer.
As the space is very clearly laid out, it is very easy to compare the different vehicle concepts and the drivers are only too happy to talk and answer questions when it comes to explaining their car.
Slightly fewer cars than at previous events
The Dolder Classics has been held four times a year on the ice rink for several years now, but its future is not secure as the facility will have to be renovated in the next few years. But Christian Lehmann will certainly have a solution for this.
The crowds on September 11, 2016 were somewhat smaller than at other sunny events in the past, something Lehmann couldn't quite explain. Whether the numerous competing events on the same weekend were the reason for this cannot be conclusively assessed.
However, the pictures show more than a thousand words who was at the September Dolder Classics and who was there.
