After the Mark X had become a little too expansive, Jaguar returned to the slim sports saloon with the XJ 6, without sacrificing the typical English ambience. In fact, there was so little to criticize about the blend of luxury and performance that "sport auto" saw only the uber-Mercedes with its 6.3-litre engine as an equal competitor.
