In 1989, Mazda presented a new roadster which, in retrospect, was to become a real bestseller. Originally designed primarily for the US market under the name Miata, the small, inexpensive fresh-air fun from the Far East quickly won the hearts of roadster fans all over the world. From 1990, the sports car, now given the model name MX-5, was also offered through Central European dealer networks, albeit in homeopathic doses at the beginning.
With almost one million units now sold, the MX-5 is the best-selling roadster in the world. Today, the reliable, low-maintenance and economical niche model of yesteryear has long since become a sought-after classic.

Help with buying a Mazda
Carla Crook's aim in her little booklet is not to tell the story of the MX-5, but to help buyers choose the right model. Accordingly, the focus is on the inspection of the vehicle on offer. Problem areas are meticulously listed and guidelines are provided on how to proceed with the first inspection, what to look out for on the test drive, etc.
The right car?
But even those who have not yet found a car they would like to inspect will find help in the book "Mazda MX-5 - all models 1989 - 2001", namely if they do not yet know whether the car suits them at all and whether they would rather opt for an early (NA series) or later (NB series) model.
Restoration?
The earliest Mazda MX-5s are already 25 years old. This raises the question of whether it is worth restoring one or the other. Carla Crook helps here with typical spare parts prices, but also says, as expected, that it is probably better to buy the best possible vehicle, as restorations are always financial adventures.
Inexpensive
The 64 pages in the small booklet, which fits in almost every handbag and also in the glove compartment of most cars, cost 9.99 euros. It can provide valuable services when buying a used MX-5 and the price is more than justified.
