Baby Doll - Renault 5 (in the historical test)
Summary
Renault launched the small R5 on the market in January 1972. The "Cinq" was a modern compact sedan with many strengths and hardly any weaknesses. The Austrian Auto Revue was full of praise, because the little car was practical, comfortable and sporty at the same time. This report reproduces the original wording of the 1972 test and shows the Renault 5 in many pictures.

Preview (beginning of the article)
Around six months after its launch, the Renault 5 is coming to Austria. It has already become extremely popular in France. In many European countries, sellers of other cars see it as a dangerous threat, and experts predict that it will win one or more "Car of the Year" titles at the end of the year. But what can this new little Renault really do, and what chances will it have on our market? When I took delivery of the test car, I had never driven the R5 before, nor had I ever sat in it. Perhaps that's why I should list the spontaneous impressions I had when I got in. First reaction: What a small car! Second reaction: With my 1.82 m length, I'm sitting unusually low and not at all comfortable behind the high steering wheel! Third flash: There's a lot of space in there! And then, after the first few meters on the road: Great, it springs like a large comfort sedan.
